ClipSync — Overview
The ClipSync overview: sync state, this machine, phone scan, quick settings and quick actions

What you get

One clipboard across networks and systems

Not another cloud drive, and not a chat with yourself. Copy and paste stay the same; they just stop being limited by device, system or network.

01

Cross-network sync

Devices on one network connect directly. On different networks, content is end-to-end encrypted and relayed — office, home and a phone hotspot all stay on the same clipboard.

02

Multi-platform

Windows, macOS and Linux desktop apps sync with each other. A phone needs no app: scan a QR code to read history, grab a clip or send a file.

03

AI configuration sync

Built-in profiles for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Windsurf and Continue. Compare configuration across devices, then overwrite, keep a copy or merge.

04

File and folder transfer

Drop files or folders on the window to send them. Folders are packed automatically and unpacked on paste; large files are fetched on demand instead of occupying disk up front.

05

Paste panel

Ctrl+Shift+V opens a searchable picker. Arrow keys choose, Enter pastes into the active app; plain text, images, files and favorites are all supported.

06

One clipboard

Text, links, pictures, HTML and files sync. History can be searched, filtered and pinned, and copying back and forth between two machines does not duplicate entries.

First time

Three steps to get started

When to use it

Where it fits

Keep working the way you already do: copy and paste.

Situation How it works
Home and office computers Keep in sync on different networks; content travels encrypted between the devices
Moving things between a desktop and a laptop They find each other on the same Wi-Fi; connect once, then copy as usual
Getting something from the computer on a phone Show the QR code and open it in the phone's browser, with no app to install
Handing a file to a colleague or friend Drop it on the window and pick a device; machines on the same network do not need connecting first
Keeping replies, addresses and code snippets handy Save them in the library and copy one back whenever you need it
Talking to the device nearby Computers on the same Wi-Fi can chat and send files without adding each other first

Screens

A window that makes sense at a glance

Every page lives in the sidebar, one click away. Here are the ones you will use most.

Sync state, this machine, phone scan, quick settings and quick actions.

Clipboard History
Clipboard history: the search box, the type filter and the per-row actions
02

Clipboard History

Search, filter by type, copy / favourite / translate / delete per row, with multi-select batch actions. Two machines copying back and forth do not sync the same item twice.

Devices
The devices page: pairing state, manual connection, discovery diagnostics and send/receive switches
03

Devices

Pairing, manual connection, discovery diagnostics and send/receive switches, plus the cross-network phone companion.

Favorites
Favorites: the group sidebar, the saved clips and the editor's entry point
04

Favorites

The clips worth keeping, on their own shelf: groups, editing, drag-to-reorder, one-click copy back, Markdown export.

File Transfer
File transfer: an in-flight progress bar and a transfer history with succeeded and failed states
05

File Transfer

Send files or folders by dropping them on the window. If a transfer is interrupted it continues where it stopped, a failed send can be retried, and there is a speed test. Computers found on the same Wi-Fi can be sent to without pairing first.

Nearby Chat
Nearby chat: the conversation list, message bubbles and a file attachment
06

Nearby Chat

Talk to devices on the same network without pairing first; messages and files are delivered straight away.

To confirm each one, turn off both Anyone nearby can send messages and files and Anyone nearby can send me a file in Settings → LAN discovery: every message and file then waits for your Accept, and the sender's device name and identifier are shown first.

AI config
AI config: the configuration files and skill directories that were read
07

AI config

Built-in profiles for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Windsurf and Continue. Compare the differences, then choose overwrite, copy alongside, or merge.

Settings
Settings: section rail, search and keyboard shortcuts
08

Settings

A section rail for General, Connection, Data and System, with search at the top. Keyboard shortcuts are their own section and the overview tile jumps straight there; languages and themes, filters, retention limits, backup and restore, diagnostics and updates are here too.

Privacy

Your content stays close to your devices

On the same Wi-Fi, the computers find each other directly. On different networks, content is encrypted before it passes through a relay. Neither way needs a cloud account holding your clipboard.

  • Check the numbers when pairing. Both devices show the same 8-digit number; confirm it matches before trusting each other. A later change to the other device's identity raises an alert.
  • Encrypted when it leaves the device. Across networks, content is encrypted before it is sent; the relay only forwards it.
  • Sensitive content can be covered. Card numbers, national ID numbers, phone numbers, passwords and more can become [FILTERED]; choose the categories in Settings.
  • Your history, your rules. How long it is kept, when it is cleared and whether it is saved with a password are all under your control.

Phone

Scan once, carry on from your phone

The computer shows a QR code. Scan it with the phone's camera or browser and the same clipboard history opens. Add it to the home screen on iOS or Android and it is one tap away.

  • Read the computer's clipboard history, copy something to the phone, or send an item back
  • Upload files from the phone and download files from the computer
  • Chat with the computer and follow file transfers
  • Change or close the access code from the computer whenever you want

FAQ

You may also be wondering

Do both computers need to be on the same Wi-Fi?

No. On the same Wi-Fi it is easiest and they find each other automatically; on different networks, turn on internet sync and keep going.

Do I need an account?

No. Install, pair the devices and you are ready; there is no sign-up or login.

Does my clipboard go to the cloud?

On the same Wi-Fi, content travels directly between your devices. Across networks it is encrypted before a relay forwards it; the relay does not keep it.

Do I need an app on my phone?

No. Show the QR code on the computer and open it in the phone's browser. You can add it to the home screen for one-tap access.

Can Windows and Mac sync with each other?

Yes. Windows, macOS and Linux computers can pair, sync the clipboard and send files to one another.

Does ClipSync keep running when I close the window?

Yes. Closing the window puts it in the tray and clipboard sync continues. Use Quit in the tray menu to exit for real.

Do I need to install anything else first?

No. Download the installer for your system, install it and open the app.

What happens when the history gets large?

You can set a retention limit, check how much space it uses and clear all history in Settings. Saved favourites are not cleared.

macOS says the app cannot be verified. What now?

Right-click ClipSync in Finder, choose Open and confirm. If it still says the app is damaged, run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/ClipSync.app in Terminal and open it again.

Is ClipSync free?

It is free for personal and other noncommercial use. Commercial use in a company, paid product or hosted service needs a commercial license first.
